Three big sights east of Bishkek in a single day. We start at Burana Tower, take a samovar tea break in Boom Gorge, then hike 2.5 to 3 hours through the red walls of Konorchek Canyon to the Eolian Castles. We finish on the western shore of Issyk-Kul near Balykchy with a Kyrgyz lunch and free time on the beach. A full day for travellers short on time.

Day-by-day itinerary
Tap any day to expand. Every itinerary can be tailored to your dates, pace and fitness.
Your guide meets you at your hotel in Bishkek and we set off towards Issyk-Kul. First stop is Burana Tower, where the Silk Road town of Balasagun once stood. You see petroglyphs, balbals and a small museum of 9th to 11th century coins and ceramics. Climb the tower for a view over the valley and the Tien Shan.
The road enters Boom Gorge and runs beside the river between tall rock walls. We stop at a small spot locals know for kattama with sour cream and tea boiled in a samovar.
Then we hike Konorchek Canyon, 2.5 to 3 hours there and back. You walk up a dry riverbed between red cliffs shaped over millions of years. People compare it to the Grand Canyon, some say Mars. The trail ends at a viewpoint over the Eolian Castles, a good place to rest and take photos.
We reach Issyk-Kul, the world's second-largest alpine lake, on its western shore near Balykchy. Lunch is Kyrgyz food at a local restaurant. Afterwards the beach is yours for a walk or a quiet sit. In the evening we drive back and drop you at your hotel in Bishkek.
